The Magic and Medicine of Music

Join the waitlist:

A resource & mentorship for anyone using music therapeutically at home or in the classroom.

A deepening relationship with your own musicality.

An end to the cycles of music-based shame and fear.

The Magic and Medicine of Music was born of a desire to end the cycles of music-based shame and fear, whilst amplifying and validating our musicality no matter how it looks and sounds.

Your voice is enough. It has a purpose, and it’s not to be used by us, it’s to keep us safe.

Your musicality is enough. Our creativity is our mother tongue and needs no training.

Your lyrics are enough. Your thoughts, words and intent are potent. They need not be poetic.

MMM is equally intended for those who consider themselves ‘not musical’ as those who identify as a musician.

A word on ‘Non - Musical People’

To be human is to be musical, there’s not a person alive who isn’t musical because the brain is a musical organ. We are music to our core! Those who don’t identify as musical probably learnt that ‘musical’ means people can play a Western instrument to a certain standard, can sing to a certain standard, had instrument lessons form a young age or can read Western music notation.

Non of this means musical.

A word on ‘Musical People’

It is a blessing and privilege to contain the skills the world calls ‘musical’, they afford us much external validation and opportunity. Also, often our sense of who we are as musicians is guided by our teacher/genre/contract/audience, and many find that the ‘more musical’ we become, the further from our truest expression we found ourselves. The less likely to play, make mistakes, go out of tune, be unpolished.

A word on ‘all people’

Every single one of us has music inside us that music needs to be expressed. Being musical is how we express our emotions, our creativity, our unique perspective, our imagination. Without rhythm, melody, pace, sound, repetition and harmony our brain find life harder, and less safe.

Music is what soothes our nervous system. Not ‘good’ music. And expressing it is what moves emotion through our body so that we are less pent up, and experience more felt safety.

The Magic and Medicine of Music is not for musical people, or non musical people, it’s for all people.

When you join The Magic and Medicine of Music you will receive…

  • a 200+ page workbook

  • 60+ music based session plans suitable for individual/groups/children/adults

  • closed facebook group for connecting with community, sharing your music and holding space for others to share

We are in the midst of a body/brain/nervous system REVOLUTION.
We have the neuroscience.
We are becoming trauma informed.
We favour co-regulation.
We know that the brain prefers music over anything else.

What would it feel like to have a healthy relationship with our anger? To fully release pent up grief and pain? To advocate for ourselves and our kids with a voice that takes up space? To sing, dance and create with as much power and freedom as Beyoncé?

And how would it feel to know we can gift the same to our children, ending the cycles of expressive/creative/musical shame RIGHT NOW?

Simply by expressing our musicality. Our birthright. Our biggest ally.

Hi, I'm Alli.

A former Neurologic Music Therapist who stepped out of the allied health system after 16 years, and now focuses on enacting societal change by dismantling harmful musical myths.

As a woman I was suppressed by the systems that told me to ‘be seen and not heard’, to ‘stop being hysterical’, to ‘not give up my day job’ in response to my musical expression.

Others were led to believe that not being able to play an instrument, sing in tune or access lessons meant they were ‘not musical’. Some were told to mine in the school choir. Many were punished for using their voice to speak up.

These systems are coming to an end.

AND WE ARE THE ONES DISMANTLING THEM.

To be human is to be musical. And once we step into our full power as musical beings our lives will transform in ways we never knew were possible.

The Magic and Medicine of Music is my brand new 6 weeks program that delves into the connections between music and the brain. It’s a guide to re-membering your voice and experiencing music the way you deserve.

By the end of our 6 weeks together you’ll be facilitating music with your children and students with the knowledge that you are planting seeds of self-regulation that will flourish as they grown and serve them forever.
