I sat with a circle of rad women and together we explored our voice. I was part of a most fabulous retreat, where we really listened to our voices.
Softly and boldly. We anticipated our sound, created it and basked in the aftermath.
Last year I gave the class a name, started writing a syllabus, and dreamed about training future facilitators so that voice work can spread to yoga studios, gyms, classrooms and circles around the world.
(I got distracted by the next shiny idea before I finished😅😆)
But now I’m Back!! And I’m journaling. And OMG I’m meant to be writing a book, but this is calling my name too! And I’m feeling creative and entrepreneurial and like I’ve remembered something I was meant to be doing.
Such a creative and fertile feeling! Gosh, I love bringing ideas to life. I’m feeling honoured to be a conduit for this work, and crossing fingers I stay on it before my attention spins to the best thing.
Here I am accompanying my voice with the Shruti Box on a recent Facebook Live.
Vocal toning is an age-old vocal practice, used across many cultures, for many different purposes (including healing, grieving, accessing altered states, storytelling and more). And the reason I love to use my voice in this way if that it truly allows me to step outside the square of music in the way it was taught to me, and have a fully embodied, authentic expressive outlet in the very moment.
Our Western Culture doesn’t teach us how to use music outside of Western culture – isn’t that a shame! But we can reclaim our musicality, and liberate ourselves from the ‘musical rules’. Sing along with me if you like. Let me know if you got out of your comfort zone and how did you feel? Alli xx
