When words fail – there are other ways to use your voice!
Including sobbing, moaning, sighing, swearing, toning, wailing, singing, puffing, whistling, yelling, whimpering etc.
Emotion = ENERGY in MOTION, it HAS to move through us.
And using your voice emotionally instead of cognitively, is a great way of doing it.
Using our voices emotionally instead of cognitively is totally a thing! It used to be common, and now it’s considered a little awks. Emo. Juvenile. Reserved only for the car or the shower!
But using our voices is SUCH an effective way of expressing ourselves in a way that releases emotion. And introducing a vocal practice back into our lifestyles is a great way to help keep us regulated!
Words require thought, careful placement, strategic choices. They require an active prefrontal cortex (the bit of your brain behind your forehead and wrapping around towards your left ear).
Vocal sounds require naught but an open mouth and an emotive intent. If your limbic system is active (which it is in *anyone* who’s feeling emotional or anxious) then you can vocalise!
Reintroducing our voice into our lives as a tool for regulation and release is a phenomenal strategy which you can use too.
