
What is Music Therapy?
Music Therapy is the planned and creative use of music to attain and maintain health and well-being. Registered Music Therapists (RMT's) assess the individual needs of clients and address these needs through the use of interventions such as singing and instrumental playing, live and recorded music listening, creative song-writing, lyrical analysis, music and imagery, improvisation, musical games and movement to music.
Some common areas addressed by RMT's include:

Who can benefit from music therapy?
Clients of any age can benefit from music therapy and need not be considered musical to benefit from musical interventions. Alli has worked with people aged from pre-birth to 107 years of age in areas including:

What is a music therapy program?
Upon an initial music therapy consultation an assessment will be made during which Alli and the client will discuss specific goals to be met throughout the program.
This assessment will be documented as will the most appropriate method of achieving these goals. As the music therapy sessions progress Alli will note client progress and evaluate the efficiency of the program to ensure a maximum outcome.
Programs can run for a specifically appointed time (eg. 10 weeks), be ongoing or cease when the client feels their goals have been met successfully.
Code of Ethics
RMT's are bound by a code of ethics and ongoing standards of professional practice as set by the Australian Music Therapy Association.
Confidentiality is strictly adhered to.
